Read the WARDOGS Beta 02 briefing: systems under load, staged invitations, the September 5 open-beta change and the limits of the announcement's evidence.
WARDOGS Beta 02 was announced on September 1, 2026 as a test of how the game's services behaved with more players. BULKHEAD initially increased access in waves, targeting failures that appear under load. This briefing explains that plan and the later switch to open access.
The announcement identifies these areas. The right column explains where a player encounters each one; it is not a list of confirmed bugs.
| Test area | Where players encounter it |
|---|---|
| Server scaling and browsing | Finding a server as demand grows |
| Login queue | Waiting to enter when many players connect |
| VOIP | Talking through in-game voice chat |
| Twitch Drops | Receiving rewards linked to a viewing campaign |
| DLC entitlements | Having eligible purchased content recognized |
Testing an entitlement system does not establish which cosmetics were available in that build. Likewise, naming Twitch Drops does not give a campaign's reward list or claim deadline. Use the Drop requirements and edition contents for those separate questions.
BULKHEAD said gradual Steam Playtest admissions would let it assess stability as participation increased. The September 1 notice offered guaranteed access through pre-orders, alongside limited invitations sent in waves. The test was tied to The FPS Games Show on September 3.
For a player waiting on an invitation, that meant requesting access and receiving access were different steps. The beta-access guide explains the Steam account and Playtest-client checks.
BULKHEAD then opened the closed beta to a wider audience, with a published cutoff of September 6 at 08:00 UTC. That window has passed as of this September 8 review. The later notice changes how the earlier invitation rules should be read.
See the test timeline and local cutoff times for the dated sequence. The separately announced paid milestone is Steam Early Access on September 10.
The September 1 post describes the test's purpose. It gives no measured queue duration, server-capacity result, complete fix list or guarantee of a problem-free launch. Those claims would need later results or patch notes; the test plan alone cannot support them.
