For WARDOGS beta access, start from the game's Steam store page and the current Playtest entry. BULKHEAD opened the beta on September 5 and scheduled it to finish September 6 at 08:00 UTC. During that announced open window, the earlier pre-order requirement is superseded; outside it, wait for a new test announcement or the paid Early Access release. [open-beta]

Check access before downloading

  1. Open the official WARDOGS Steam page while signed into the Steam account you intend to use.
  2. Find the Playtest section and follow the access or installation option currently shown there. If Steam offers a request rather than immediate access, follow that displayed state; an application is not a guarantee of admission.
  3. Once access is granted, look for WARDOGS Playtest in your Steam Library. Install or update that client and compare your PC with the official requirements.
  4. Launch during the announced window. A successful outcome is admission to an available game server, not simply a completed download.

Valve documents Playtest as a separate application associated with a store game. Developers control admissions and availability, which is why a Playtest library entry and a base-game purchase should be checked separately. [steam-playtest]

Allow time for the download and updates. We have not measured the current download size; the store's required free storage is not the same measurement. The schedule gives the cutoff in several time zones.

Why older key instructions differ

In August, BULKHEAD said it could no longer distribute keys through the original external signup process because it had reached a Steam-key limit. It moved beta invitations to Steam's native Playtest process, with a limited random pool and guaranteed access for pre-orders in that closed test. September's Beta 02 announcement initially used staged invitations too. [preorder][beta-two]

Those announcements explain old FirstLook and beta-key guides. They do not establish that an old signup page is the current way to enter. Use the latest Steam announcement and the access state shown on the store.

Granted access, but login still fails

Eligibility and service availability are separate. Confirm that you are using the intended Steam account, the correct Playtest client and its latest update. Then check the published window and official notices. A queue or authentication error should lead to login troubleshooting, not to buying another copy or repeatedly hunting for keys.

If the test has ended, local reinstallations cannot reopen it. The next confirmed paid milestone is Early Access on September 10; another beta needs its own announcement. [open-beta][preorder]
