Choose the chart for the client you mean

These entries represent separate Steam applications. After Early Access begins, use the main-game entry for the released client and retain the Playtest entry when discussing Beta history. A low or missing number on one entry cannot describe activity in the other. [playtest-chart] [main-game-chart]

Read the labels before comparing numbers

  1. Confirm that the page says the expected client name and app ID.
  2. Read the current-player figure separately from the 24-hour or all-time peak. A peak describes an earlier maximum, not the number online at the moment you open the page.
  3. Record the date and the source when sharing a result. SteamDB states that its times are UTC and that it is not affiliated with Valve or Steam. [playtest-chart]

Valve defines its current-player measure as players active in the specified Steam app; it excludes people playing without a Steam connection. This is not a count of sales or everyone who has ever played. [valve-definition]

Likewise, a Twitch viewer count measures an audience watching broadcasts. Wishlists and followers describe other forms of interest. Neither should be relabeled as people playing. The main-game SteamDB page displays these other metrics, making its labels particularly important. [main-game-chart]

Match capacity is a different number

WARDOGS matches support up to 100 players across three teams. That is the limit for a match, not the size of the whole Steam audience. A large total also does not guarantee that a server in your region has the mode, space or connection quality you want. [developer-faq]
