Separate WARDOGS client crashes from whole-PC restarts, check the affected build, and collect the details needed for useful troubleshooting and support.
If WARDOGS is crashing, first record whether the game closes, a launcher shows an error, or the entire PC restarts. BULKHEAD acknowledged crash reports during the August Beta and said they were being tracked ahead of Early Access. [known-issues]
| What happens | Information that helps |
|---|---|
| The client closes during a match | The map or action, how long you had played, and whether an error appeared |
| Launch stops at a message | The complete message and the client or launcher displaying it |
| Windows freezes or the PC restarts | Any Windows stop code, the time, and whether other applications have the same problem |
| The game stays open but refuses login | The authentication message; follow the access checks |
The August Steam discussion includes reports of whole-PC crashes and a developer reply confirming that the team was looking into them. The reports do not establish that every restart has the same cause. [crash-thread]
Check that Steam has finished updating the client you are launching. Compare your computer with the official requirements, then read the latest developer announcements for changes affecting that build. An August report is not proof that an identical problem remains in September. [steam-news]
If the game client closes and you want to check its installation, Valve recommends this procedure for Steam games that crash or show missing content. These are Steam's current steps, checked September 6, 2026. [valve-files]
Run one game's check at a time and wait for resource-heavy work, such as a virus scan, to finish first. Valve also notes that local configuration files can fail validation without needing replacement; a failed-file message alone does not identify the crash's cause. [valve-files]
After the check, retry once and note whether the same action still closes the game. Successful verification establishes an installation check, not a WARDOGS-specific crash fix. If the crash returns, move on to the report below rather than repeating the scan.
If the whole PC repeatedly restarts, stop repeatedly launching the same failing sequence. Do not disable security protections, remove kernel drivers, or uninstall security updates merely because another player associated them with a crash. Those changes require a diagnosis of your system, which a forum symptom report cannot provide.
Include the game or Playtest client name, build if available, operating system, CPU, GPU, driver version, and the exact point where it fails. Add the full error text and a timestamp with your time zone. Describe the changes you tried and their results.
Use the official WARDOGS Steam discussions to report the issue, attaching a screenshot if it clarifies the failure. Remove account details and other personal information before posting logs or screenshots publicly. The earlier developer response confirms that crash reports were being followed, but it does not promise a response time or a fix for an individual report. [crash-thread]
